Gail Brinn Wilkins
Celebrates 25 Years in Interior Design
Charlotte, NC – If you ask Gail Brinn Wilkins about the success of Gail Brinn Wilkins Interiors over the past 25 years, she will tell you it is very basic. She loves people, takes the time to get to know her clients, and listens carefully to what they tell her. According to Wilkins, she incorporates an architectural sense with lush design, which is then interwoven with her client’s personal taste and vision. “The art of living is very personal. My goal has always been to interpret my client’s desires to create an enjoyable, functional, and aesthetically beautiful environment that is a representation of them,” Wilkins says.
Wilkins majored in religion and history at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. She taught language arts and social studies in junior and senior high school. Later she discovered her love of interior design. Wilkins studied at the New York School of Interior Design and in Paris at the Musee Des Arts Decoratifs. Over the past 25 years, Gail Brinn Wilkins Interiors has grown into a multi-million dollar firm with a support design team housed in a 5,000 square foot full-service design studio. The firm serves clients throughout the United States. Unlike any other design firm in the Southeast, a unique fabric library and design color coordination area allow clients to view thousands of fabric samples in varying shades, textures, and patterns, as well as a vast array of trims, floor coverings, wallpapers, paints, and moldings. Catalogs of furnishings offered by the leading manufacturers are also available. In addition, the firm produces exclusive custom wallpaper, carpets, rugs, lamps, cabinetry, and other furnishings to fit the special needs and tastes of its clients.
Wilkins says, “We welcome any size job and take pride in working within a client’s budget and time frame.” Gail Brinn Wilkins Interiors can help you make correct choices for your home, saving time and resources. “Expensive is not always synonymous with good taste. There are many ways to reflect a tasteful environment.” Wilkins enjoys the challenge of all styles of design projects whether residential, corporate, or condominiums and home models and is inspired by clients at all levels and stages of life.
After 25 years in the business, Wilkins says she loves it as much as she did when she first started. “Every day I am more excited about the possibilities and capabilities of a full, rich life for all people I serve. I am grateful that I can help someone create a beautiful home environment that is all their own, letting them be all they can be and grow to be more.”
Wilkins’ work has been featured in national magazines including Southern Living, Southern Accents and Veranda. Her professional credits and honors include membership in the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA); she was named ASID “Designer of the Year” and has won numerous other ASID awards. Along with many civic and community awards, Wilkins was named one of Charlotte's “Top Ten Women” by Charlotte Magazine, and in 1998, she was named “Charlotte Business Woman of the Year” by Wachovia and Queens University of Charlotte.
Wilkins is an active leader in the Charlotte community, both in her church, serving as an Elder, and in the arts community. Wilkins serves on the board of Carolinas Concert Association, chairing their patron Crown Society. In 2005, she was chairman of “Catherine Eason and Friends in Concert,” which raised $111,000 for the benefit of RAIN (Regional AIDS Interfaith Network), an organization which she was instrumental in starting; and Florence Crittenton Services where she sits on the Advisory Board. Winner of the Alumnae Career Award at Meredith in 2003, she also sits on the Advisory Board for Design at Central Piedmont Community College. In November 2005, Wilkins will receive an honor from Elon Homes for Children. Her business acumen, combined with her love for those in need and the arts, continue to present a full exciting schedule for her.
