Gail Brinn Wilkins, one of the best-known
Charlotte personalities, is certainly one of the top Charlotte interior
designers. Each year
her designer room in the Charlotte ASID Showcase House is special with
its wonderfully elusive and unchanging appeal. “ It’s Gail’s
room, I would know it anywhere!” is heard over and over again. What
is that special Gail Brinn Wilkins look and flair? Who is Gail
Brinn Wilkins?
From Sanford, NC Gail has been a professional ASID designer for more than 25 years. She attended the New York School of Interior Design and participated in the Parsons School of Design “Study in Paris” program, where she studied design at the Louvre, museum.
Working with a top Charlotte designer for seven years, she learned the “nuts and bolts” of the design profession. Principal in her own business for the past 25 years, she has used that training to create uniquely personalized elegance for a burgeoning list of corporate and residential clients from New York to Washington State.
From an at-home space, an adding machine, typewriter and a few samples, the very first client led to another, and then many others. With a support team, a wonderful banker, some reliable resourceful suppliers, and excellent subcontractors, Gail Brinn Wilkins, Inc. prospered and grew. A lion logo, Gail’s trademark, embossed on a gilt card, has been the firm’s and Gail’s icon from the beginning.
Gail Brinn Wilkins, Inc. is now located in a lovely 5,000 square foot tudor style building on Queens Road, where spacious offices, work areas, and a unique fabric and design coordination area allow clients to view more than 50,000 samples of fabrics in varying shades, textures and patterns, as well as floor coverings, wallpaper, paints, mouldings, and furniture offered by the leading manufacturers of the highest quality product. In addition, Gail Brinn Wilkins, Inc. is capable of designing and producing exclusive custom wallpaper, carpets, rugs, lamps, cabinetry and other furnishings to fit the special needs and tastes of each client.

Gail’s passion for winning eclectic mixture of the traditional in fabrics and furniture memorably combined with contemporary design creates delight among clients who come to her seeking an escape for the typical Charlotte ambiance of the predictable.
Gail’s professional credits include membership in the American
Society of Interior Designers (ASID). She was voted Designer of
the Year by the North and South Carolina Chapter of ASID as well as many
other design awards in her field through the years. Her home and
garden were selected for the 1972 and the 1988 Mint Museum Home and Garden
Tour of fine houses. Her work has been published in many local
and national publications; she also has written many articles on design
as well as speaking through the years to many organizations and interior
design students.

Gail’s credentials expand to include her many leadership roles in the community. Currently Gail serves on The Advisory Board of Florence Crittenton Services, is Past President of The Learning Society of Queens University and Carolinas Concert Association where she chairs the Crown Society as a long time member of the board. She is also founder of The AIDS Task Force of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, one of the founding supporters of RAIN (Regional Aids Interfaith Network), a RAIN team member for many years, RAIN Board Member, and a Myers Park Presbyterian Church Elder, where she has chaired may major events to name a few of her more recent activities. Gail also serves on The Advisory Board of Central Piedmont Community College School of Design.
In 1998 Gail Brinn Wilkins received a most distinguished honor. She was selected Business Woman of the Year by Queens University and Wachovia Bank. In September 2002 Gail received The Agnes M. Barry Volunteer Service Award given by Regional Aids Interfaith Network (RAIN) on its 10th Anniversary. In 2003, Gail was honored with Meredith College’s Distinguished Alumni Association’s Career Achievement Award where the same year she was chosen to be the Kappa Omicron Nu Leadership Lecturer. In 2005, Gail Brinn Wilkins chaired the Catherine Eason and Friends Concert presenting $100,500. divided equally to RAIN and Florence Crittenton Services.
Gail’s philosophy of life is seen and felt professionally and personally in her business, community, and personal life. She believes we are all here for each other to serve and love and care, encouraging one another to share his own uniqueness and gifts so others’ lives may be enriched.
